Acts 2:42-27
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer.
43 Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and signs were being performed through the apostles. 44 Now all the believers were together and held all things in common. 45 They sold their possessions and property and distributed the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with joyful and sincere hearts,47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. Every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.
When you read this about the early church, what stands out to you about how they lived?
What are some ways the current church reflects these things?
What are some ways the current church doesn’t reflect these things?
Why is being together with other believers so important to the early church?
Why is it important for followers of Jesus to hang out with other followers of Jesus?
What would you say to someone who says, “I can have a relationship with God without going to church?”
One of the key factors of the early church was people meeting in one another’s houses. Would you be willing to have a group of people over to your house (or a room at the church) to talk about Jesus and eat food together?
If you would be willing to host a group, talk to Jason McCord if you’re at the west campus or Chris Chaudoin at the east campus.
Acts 4:29-35
29 And now, Lord, consider their threats, and grant that your servants may speak your word with all boldness,30 while you stretch out your hand for healing, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” 31 When they had prayed, the place where they were assembled was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God boldly.
32 Now the entire group of those who believed were of one heart and mind, and no one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but instead they held everything in common. 33 With great power the apostles were giving testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was on all of them. 34 For there was not a needy person among them because all those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the proceeds of what was sold, 35 and laid them at the apostles’ feet. This was then distributed to each person as any had need.
Where are some places where it is hard to speak about Jesus boldly?
Even if we aren’t oppressed like the early church, why is it still difficult to speak the word of God boldly?
When the gospel was threatened the people gathered together to pray. Who are some people you can pray with this week?
The believers helped everyone as they had need, not considering their stuff as their own. How does this differ from socialism?

Prayer TACOS
Thanksgiving: Who helped you in a time of need? Thank the Lord for them and their generosity.
Amazement: The church was established and grew because of a group of men and women who prayed bold prayers, showed generosity, spoke God’s truth when it wasn’t popular, and did all this in the face of persecution. Spend some time worshipping the Lord for the miracle that is the church.
Confession: What are some ways this week that you were selfish? Confess those things to the Lord and ask Him to help you to put others before yourself.
Others: Who is someone you know who has stepped back from going to church and being in community with other believers? Pray for them and ask the Lord to give you an opportunity to invite them back.
Self: Pray for boldness and opportunity to proclaim the name of Jesus boldly this week.
