Opening Discussion

  • What is something in the Bible that you find weird, interesting, or hard to understand?

Read and Discuss

1 Corinthians 15:58

58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord’s work, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

  • What are ways this verse could help shape your daily… relationship with Jesus?

    • …interactions with others?

    • …habits and how you spend your time?

    • …work ethic?

  • When you hear the words “steadfast” and “immovable” what comes to mind?

    • Who are some people you would describe this way?

    • How can you be steadfast and immovable in Christ?

1 Corinthians 15:28-34

28 When everything is subject to Christ, then the Son himself will also be subject to the one who subjected everything to him, so that God may be all in all.

29 Otherwise what will they do who are being baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, then why

are people baptized for them? 30 Why are we in danger every hour? 31 I face death every day, as surely as I may boast about you, brothers and sisters, in Christ Jesus our Lord. 32 If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus as a mere man, what good did that do me? If the dead are not raised, Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die. 33 Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.” 34 Come to your senses and stop sinning; for some people are ignorant about God. I say this to your shame.

  • This passage is a bit weird and there are over 100 different theories on what being "baptized for the dead” could mean. For our discussion we will say Paul was pointing out that even though some may have said they didn’t believe in the resurrection, they were still doing practices just in case they were wrong.

  • Why does Paul say the dead being raised is so important?

  • What does Paul mean by “If the dead are not raised, Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die?”

    • Why does living this way not honor God?

  • How has the company you keep influenced your thinking? (People, podcasts, YouTube videos can all be company that you keep)

  • What area of your life do you need to come to your senses and stop sinning?

    • Who can you talk to about this?

  • What can you do this week to learn more about God and His word so that you aren’t ignorant about Him?

Discipleship Questions

  • Who is steadfast, immovable, and always excelling in the Lord’s work that you could meet with this week to talk about Jesus?

  • How can you live your life with more of a resurrection mindset?

    • What would that look like?

Memorize it!

1 Corinthians 15:34

Come to your senses and stop sinning; for some people are ignorant about God. I say this to your shame.

Prayer TACOS

Thanksgiving: What work has God given you to excel at? Thank Him for giving meaning to every aspect of your life because you are living for Him.

Amazement: What has the Lord done in your life? Spend some time worshipping the mighty things He has done through you, not because of who you are, but because of who He is.

Confession: What did you do this week that went against what God would have you to do? Pray for forgiveness and ask the Lord to help you come to your senses and stop sinning.

Others: Is there anyone in your life who is “bad company”? Pray that the Lord would help you to either be a good influence in their life, or distance yourself from them for a season.

Self: Do you feel like you are ignorant about God? Talk to Him about why you feel this way.
